A Musical Culinary Journey at Everest Cuisine

Here at Everest Cuisine, we aim to transport our guests to the majestic Himalayas through not just the food but the all-encompassing dining experience. In addition to crafting authentic Nepali and Indian cuisine, we seek to evoke the sights, sounds, and spirit of the subcontinent through subtle details.

One such detail is the music we play – traditional folk and classical genres from Nepal and India that waft through the dining hall, transporting patrons to the mountains and valleys that inspired our cuisine.

The moment guests step into Everest Cuisine, they are greeted with the melodic sounds of a tanpura – the string instrument integral to Indian classical music. The continuous drone acts as a background for patrons to settle in and peruse our menu of Himalayan delicacies.

As guests dig into their meals, the tunes transition to Nepali folk songs featuring the indigenous flutes, drums, and string instruments of the Himalayas. The melancholy melodies and rhythmic beats conjure images of yak herders high up in the mountains and plateaus of Nepal.

During prime dinner time hours, patrons are treated to live traditional music performed by our resident Nepali musicians. They play an array of Nepalese instruments like the bansuri flute, madal drum, and sarangi violin to mesmerize diners with folk tunes and vibrant dances from the Kathmandu valley.

The genres of Nepali music we feature aim to highlight the country’s rich cultural tapestry. Guests may hear the devotional bhajans and hymns of the Indian-influenced Khind singers, the melancholy rasiya ballads of the Mustang region, or the celebratory wedding songs of the Sherpas. Tamang folk musicians often serenade diners during weekends, transporting them to the lush mountains of central Nepal.

Besides evoking a sense of place, the music also pays homage to the diverse ethnic groups that have shaped Nepali culture over millennia. From Nepal Bhasa songs of the Newars to Tharu folk dance tunes of the southern plains, the melodies that waft through Everest Cuisine reflect the country’s composite cultural heritage.

For those with a taste for Indian classical, we regularly host live performances of soulful ragas by talented musicians. The alaaps and soul-stirring compositions transport patrons to the birthplace of the rich Hindustani classical tradition in the mountains, plains, and deserts of India.

For us at Everest Cuisine, transporting our guests through traditional Nepali and Indian music is as integral to the dining experience as the food itself. The melodies and rhythms allow patrons to intuitively connect with the very spirit of the Himalayas that inspires our cuisine. Even as the dishes change with the seasons, the soundtrack continues to stay true to our goal – taking diners on a sensory-laden journey through the majestic mountains and diverse cultures of the subcontinent.

At Everest Cuisine, food, and music come together to create a holistic dining experience that seeks to nourish not just the palate but also the body and soul. We hope the musical symphony that accompanies every meal leaves our patrons satiated on multiple levels – spiritually rejuvenated as well as sated.
