At Everest Cuisine, we aim to take you to the Great Himalayas, not just through food but through a complete dining experience. In addition to cooking authentic Nepali and Indian food, we try to draw inspiration from the visual landscapes, sounds, and ethos of the subcontinent with subtle detailing.
Details like the music we play, traditional folk and classical genres from Nepal and India, waft through the dining hall, transporting the patrons to the mountains and valleys that inspired our cuisine.
The moment you walk in at Everest Cuisine, you are greeted by the melodic sounds of a tanpura, integral to Indian classical music. That continuous drone acts as the background for our patrons to settle in and peruse our menu of Himalayan delicacies.
As guests enjoy their food, the pieces transform into Nepali folk songs that present indigenous flutes, drums, and other stringed instruments of the Himalayas. The simple, melancholic melodies evoke imagery of yak herders on mountain plateaus in Nepal.
Our in-house Nepali musicians play live traditional music at prime dinner time hours to entertain patrons with the full range of Nepalese instruments, such as the bansuri flute, madal drum, and sarangi violin, making folk tunes and lively dances from the Kathmandu valley dance into their evening.
We present several styles of Nepali music in an attempt to fully display the depth and breadth of that country’s cultural landscape. During dinner, guests may hear the devotional bhajans and hymns of the Indian-influenced Khind singers, the melancholy rasiya ballads of the Mustang region, or the jingling celebratory wedding songs of the Sherpas. Tamang folk musicians often serenade dinner guests on weekends, sending the diners deep into the lush mountains of central Nepal.
Besides conjuring the spirit of place, the music acknowledges the various ethnicities that have given Nepali civilization its unique character through the ages-from the Newars and their songs in Nepal Bhasa, to the folk dance tunes of the southern plains, the Tharu-to name just two. These melodies create an atmosphere that is part of the composite cultural heritage of the country.
We frequently have live renditions of soulful ragas by talented musicians for those who have a taste for Indian classical. Alaaaps and soul-stirring compositions will transport patrons to the birthplace of the rich Hindustani classical tradition in the mountains, plains, and deserts of India.
Transforming our guests through traditional Nepali and Indian music is an integral part of the dining experience for us at Everest Cuisine. The melodies and rhythms make it possible for patrons to intuitively grasp what inspires our cuisine-the very spirit of the Himalayas. Even while the menus change with the seasons, the music remains consistent with our vision always-evolving journey that embarks the guests through these majestic mountains and diverse cultures of the Indian subcontinent, through the deepest nuances and flavors.
Food and music at Everest Cuisine come together to give a holistic experience wherein the palate is nourished but also the body and soul. At the very least, we hope the musical symphony accompanying every meal leaves our patrons satiated on all levels being spiritually rejuvenated as well as satisfied.
